Messier 109 is a barred galaxy and has three satellite galaxies (UGC 6923, UGC 6940 and UGC 6969) and probably more. At about 2 o'clock you can see UGC 6923 (irregular galaxy with magnitude 13.39) just to the left of the furtherest bright star (HD 103767). The faint UGC 6940 (spiral galaxy with magnitude 16.7 and about 64 Mly away) can just be seen at 3:30 about two M109 widths away. Finally, UGC 6969 (irregular galaxy with magnitude 15.39) can be seen at about 6:35 about one and one half M109 lengths away. Photograph is a combination of 17X600s ISO 800 subs taken with a TV NP-127is.
